Camping festivals in the US and across the world offer a unique, fully immersive festival experience to music-goers. Rather than catching a ride home after the festival has ended for the day, attendees stay on the festival grounds, normally sleeping outdoors in tents or RVs. 

Although you’ll typically have to sacrifice a hot shower, AC, and any shred of privacy you’re accustomed to having, you will gain an unlikely set of benefits. For example, camping festivals allow fans to enjoy music until much later hours since they are normally secluded out in nature. Since people are sleeping just steps away from the party, it makes staying out late easy since there are no worries about a car or shuttle ride home. In addition to late-night festivities, camping festivals enable fans to make new friendships with their “neighbors,” run into DJs who also might be camping onsite, set up and decorate their campsites, and really just experience the beauty (and wrath) of mother nature.

The event is held on an expansive property in the small town of Okeechobee, Florida. So, do you have to camp at Okeechobee Festival? Camping at Okeechobee is not required, but the festival grounds are secluded, so visitors are encouraged to camp there because there aren’t many hotels or Airbnb nearby. Plus, you’ll want to be at Okeechobee all night to discover all of its many secrets!

Lightning in a Bottle is one of the most unusual camping festivals in North America due to its remote location, focus on connection, and highly sought-after DJs. Elements Music & Arts Festival is one of the most exciting festival events on the east coast. Four unique stages represent each of the elements–air, water, earth, and fire. The festival’s location in Pennsylvania’s woodlands allows guests to experience their favorite DJs among the wondrous greenery of the Poconos. Since it’s a smaller-scale festival, Elements Festival has an intimate, low-key vibe that’s hard to find elsewhere. On-site camping in the fields surrounding the woods is encouraged.

Ever since Insomniac took over Electric Forest, it’s become home to some of the best production you can find at a camping festival in the US. Longtime dubstep DJ and producer, Excision hosts the “dubstep superbowl” every year at the Legend Valley concert venue in Ohio. The prehistoric-themed event offers easy camping choices, massive dinosaurs, and the best names in dubstep and bass music. Although the grounds are not far outside of downtown Columbus and shuttle options are available, Lost Lands is also a camping festival. If you plan to camp at Lost Lands, pack for all weather conditions because Ohio can get pretty chilly on September nights!

Unquestionably one of the most distinctive music events in the US is Suwannee Hulaween. Each year, Halloween celebrations take place at the popular Spirit of Suwannee Music Park, where attendees dance and catch their favorite EDM DJs while taking in the beautiful scenery of Northern Florida. Every May, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway serves as the epicenter of electronic dance music, inviting the most high-profile DJs from around the world to perform on its many stages.
