My name is Jonathan Wood (PSYMILL), host of The Official Psychedelic Kitchen on Twitch Music. I have been streaming on Twitch since late 2019 and so far, it’s quite an incredible journey. I have met so many amazingly incredible souls on this platform.
The first artist and Twitch streamer signed to StreamTribe Live in 2021, I am a DJ and Producer hailing from Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin (United States of America). If you watch my streams, you’ll see some interesting things going on with me, physically. More or less, my hands. I spent years hiding them from people, ashamed and embarrassed. Bullying was and still is something I deal with.
Music has helped me tremendously to open up and express myself. Hands and all. I am the Hybrid Alien of Psychedelic Trance. I am unique. We are all important and as the universe speaks to me through electronic dance music, it can certainly help all of us.
This is why I do this.
FULL ARTIST BIO
Jon Wood (PSYMILL) was born on April 5, 1971 in Riverside, California, USA. He was adopted as an infant by Jonathan and Nancy Wood. Nancy, his mother, was a homemaker and Jon, his father, worked for General Telephone (now known as Verizon). Wood’s family relocated to Central Wisconsin in the early 1970’s.
At age 5, Wood’s parents bought him a toy drum kit in which he showed considerable interest. Wood’s parents encouraged his musical exploration by introducing him to several instruments with which he could experiment. Along with particular interest in the keyboard, Wood was quite fond of his parents’ vinyl record music collection.
As a teenager Wood acquired a 4-track recorder from his cousin. He spent countless hours tinkering around with various instruments and sounds, documenting it all on tape. In high school Wood played percussion and trumpet in the school jazz band. For 6 years he attended advanced jazz education during his summers at the University in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Also during this time, he played keyboards in a progressive rock band with some of his fellow classmates.
After high school graduation, Wood toured for a year on keyboards and vocals with contemporary christian rock band, Captive Free. Upon the tour’s completion, Wood spent three years providing lead vocals, keyboards, and guitar playing for the band, Revelation. Revelation was a recording artist on the AOC Records label. With AOC Records, Revelation recorded two albums, but only one was released.
In his 20’s Wood began being a DJ. He played mostly for underground parties and events. In the fall of 1997, Wood married his wife, Shelley. In December of 1997, the Wood couple welcomed their son Jonathan into the world. It was during this time Wood decided he missed playing in a band. The opportunity arose for him to be the lead singer of the band Modym, which played alternative and hard rock music. Modym went on to travel and perform live shows all over the state of Wisconsin.
In the years that followed, Wood got into internet radio. He started his own radio stations, Hot 101.5 and Gruvsonic. Juggling his radio stations and personal life, he still had a passion for being a DJ, and doing live shows.
After 10+ years in music he pursued another artistic interest, photography. He started up Jonathan Wood Photography, which took him to many photography events, and he became a mentor to new photographers. His photography business took a hit when the Covid outbreak started. Unable to photograph events, he was at a standstill. That’s when he found Twitch — a platform for him to perform, from the comforts of home, as a live-streaming DJ.
Looking to be unique with his Twitch streams, Wood added stage lighting to transform his kitchen into The Psychedelic Kitchen. Now Wood’s Twitch streams are helping him gain fans in a virtual atmosphere from all over the world. Wood enjoys the unique opportunity to individually interact with his fans, as well as other fellow DJs and streamers on Twitch. Music has been a constant force throughout Wood’s life. The music is therapeutic, and the connections and community gained are a source of true joy.
